My First Couponing Success!

So, I've recently taken interest in a new hobby: couponing! For the past month, I've been cutting out coupons we've received with the Sunday paper, organizing them in my trusty binder :), calculating the price per ounce on our staple items each month from Walmart, and looking at ads for different grocery stores. I'm having a lot of fun with it! We typically by generic items at Walmart with the exception of some toiletries, so I love the challenge of trying to get our monthly grocery budget even lower! Although I used some coupons today at Walmart which gave me some good savings, here is the purchase I am most proud of!

Yep! 2 bottles of Motts Apple Juice! Apple juice is my drink of choice at breakfast. I typically get the Great Value 96 fl. oz bottle of Apple Juice for 2.50. However I purchased these two bottles of Motts Apple Juice (a total of 128 fl. ounces) for $2.07 (including tax)!! I know it sounds silly, but I was so excited about this purchase! One bottle of Motts apple juice was $2.65. Between using the Lowes store coupon (with the Lowes card) plus the Motts manufacturer coupon, I was able to save $3.30! How cool is that?!?!

I'm new at this couponing thing, so I'm still trying to figure things out. For instance, Walmart doesn't double or triple coupons, but their prices are often the lowest. So, in those instances, a manufacturer coupon with saving 50 cents on a name brand item usually doesn't beat the generic. However, grocery stores double coupons... so would saving a $1.00 on that item at a grocery store now beat the cost of the generic at Walmart? That's what I'm trying to figure out because it really may help buying some products at grocery stores and drug stores.

Anyway, I've gone on long enough about this couponing thing and I haven't even posted a picture of our sweet Laurel (who is currently taking a nice long nap!). So now you know about this new hobby of mine and if you have any suggestions or advice about it, I'd love to hear it!
