On March 17, 2009, Grandfather went into the loving arms of Jesus. He is safely Home.
Here is a family picture taken with Grandfather in January when everyone was together! What a special time that was for all of us!

Here is the first picture taken of Grandfather and Laurel together. She was only a couple weeks old here. Laurel is his 7th great grandchild! In December, Grandfather also received the news that he would have an 8th great grandchild in August (Bruce and Lauren's)!
This was the most recent picture taken of Grandfather and Laurel. The last time we went to visit Grandfather, he had just a wonderful time watching Laurel and seeing some of the new things she was doing. He took such pleasure in watching her (as he did with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren) and we loved seeing that joy on his face. That is such a special memory for Peter and I that we will be so glad to share with Laurel one day.

I have loved getting to know Grandfather over the two years that I have known him. I have also loved all the stories I heard from Peter, Peter's sisters, brother, and parents about him. My favorite memory with Grandfather is going to his house for dinner the night before Peter and I got engaged. I had just met him that night and he gave me a tour of his study that had all of his model airplanes and memorabilia from his career in the Air Force. It was just a special time of getting to know Grandfather-- the colonel, the husband, the father, and grandfather.
Joy wrote a beautiful tribute to Grandfather on her blog that you can read here
