Recently, Laurel has been LOVING Grover and hasn't paid a bit of attention to Elmo. Sesame Street barely gets her attention, but she started loving Grover since we pointed him out in her books and she realized how much she loved saying his name. Aunt Lauren and Uncle Bruce gave Laurel a Grover doll before we left for Oklahoma and so Grover has become an essential item to Laurel.
Well, finding Sesame Street party supplies, let alone anything with Grover on it, was much easier said than done! My mom and I went from store to store trying to find some Sesame Street birthday plates that I liked. I gave up on the idea of trying to find any with Grover on it! After our search at Party Galaxy, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Target, and Walmart, we were successful at Dollar Tree! I was happy with that!
For the cake, I decided to do a cookie cake with Grover on it instead of a cake or cupcakes in hopes that the icing wouldn't be as overwhelming for her, plus we knew she already liked cookie cake!

The Grover Cake. I realized it was success when Laurel was able to identify him when we first showed her the cake. She pointed out Grover on the cake a lot during the day and we were hoping seeing it over and over again would help get her used to it.
Laurel's reaction. We're still not sure if it's the icing or candle or what!
So Laurel spent the rest of the time on Daddy's lap. She didn't want any of the cake at first, but she still kept pointing to Grover and saying his name.
We broke up some pieces of the cookie cake in hopes that it would encourage Laurel to have some of her own birthday cake!
Laurel took her time, but she finally tried some and enjoyed it!
Laurel even touched some of the icing. The icing wasn't so sticky so she was able to tolerate it a little bit better.
"Ok I admit, this is pretty good. I'll have some more."
So after a rocky start to the birthday cake celebration, Laurel finally ended up eating most of her slice! Our little princess just does not want food on her hands!
